Abstract: |
The work aims to optimize plasma spraying parameters for TiO2-based coatings. Law of influence of spraying current, spraying distance and main air flow rate on microstructure and properties of coatings was studied in the methods of orthogonal experiment, substrate temperature collection, coating microstructure analysis, energy spectrum analysis, combined strength test and hardness test, and optimized spraying process parameters were obtained. The sprayed coatings exhibited mixed microstructure characteristic which featured in dual-mode structure in molten zone and partially molten zone. Cross-sectional morphology of the coatings was uneven, and was mainly mechanically bonded. After the samples were pulled apart in tensile test, facture surfaces of the coatings were dimple-shaped, step transition occurred from ceramic layer to adhesive layer, and overall cohesive bonding strength of ceramic layer outperformed bonding strength of bonding interface between the ceramic layer and bonding layer. The coated stripes reduced as the temperature at which powder flow came to the substrate increased, which had significant effects on hardness instead of bonding strength. In the process of plasma spraying, when the temperature at which powder flow came to the substrate fell in certain range, the coating performance increased with the increase of the temperature at which powder flow came to the substrate. However, the coating propermance degraded if the temperature at which powder flow came to the substrate was too high. The optimal process parameters must be used to obtain optimal coatings, main parameters affecting overall performance of coatings are in the order as follows: spraying current, spraying distance and main air flow rate. The obtained optimal process parameters are: spraying current of 350 A, spraying distance of 110 mm, and main air flow rate of 2100 L/h. |
