Abstract:
Bis-( triethoxysilylpropyl) tetrasulfide silane passivating treatment process was investigated on hot dip Al-Zn steel sheets. The electrochemical behavior of silane passivating film on hot dip Al-Zn steel sheets in 50-/o NaCl solution was studied by electrochemical polarization curve and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements. The corrosion resistance of silane films was compared to chromate passivating treatment on hot dip Al-Zn steel sheets by neutral salt spray tests. Results show that the corrosion potention and corrosion current density decrease and the polarization resistance increase after silane passivating treatment. The corrosion process of hot dip Al-Zn steel sheets has been inhibited by silane passivating treatment. The corrosion resistance of silane passivating treatment is prior to that of chromate passivating treatment.
