Abstract:
Micro-arc oxidation ( MAO) , also called micro plasma oxidation (MPO)/ anodic spark deposition ( ASD)/spark discharge anodic oxidation ( SDAO) , allows the deposition of in situ ceramic oxide coating on the surfaces of nonferrous alloys. The process overcomes some shortcoming of the traditional anodic oxidation process by combining electrochemical oxidation with a high voltage spark treatment. The formed ceramic coating with excellent anti-wear, anticorrosion, high hardness and good insulation can make the metal behave as ceramic materials through adjustment of the process. Based on the extensive application and development of micro-arc oxidation on nonferrous metals, such as Al, Mg, Ti and their alloys, the mechanism and properties of this technology, the properties of the micro-arc oxidized film and its influencing factors were reviewed. In addition, the application status and development prospect were analyzed based on employment of this technology on the nonferrous metals and their alloys.
